How to Choose RPET Fabric: A Wholesale Buyer's Guide

Recycled PET (RPET) fabric is one of the fastest-growing materials in sustainable product design. Made from recycled plastic bottles and textile waste, it offers the performance of conventional polyester with a fraction of the environmental impact. But “RPET” covers a wide range of fabrics — and choosing the wrong one for your product can mean durability problems, cost overruns, or compliance headaches later.

Start with the weave

RPET is available in woven, non-woven, canvas, twill, ripstop and mesh constructions, and each behaves differently. Woven RPET is strong and smooth for bags and backpacks; canvas adds body for totes and workwear; twill offers a soft drape; ripstop resists tearing in high-stress areas; mesh and spacer fabrics are ideal for breathable compartments.

Match weight to use

Lightweight fabrics (around 190–210D) suit linings and everyday totes; mid-weight 300–420D covers most bags and coolers; 600D and 1680D ballistic nylon suit heavy-duty products. The right weight balances cost, durability and handling.

Ask for certifications

For verified sustainability claims, look for GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification — which tracks recycled content through the supply chain — and social compliance audits such as SEDEX. Reputable suppliers publish these credentials; if a supplier cannot document them, treat their claims with caution.

Check the ordering basics

Confirm the minimum order quantity, tier pricing, and whether samples are available before committing. At Bontex, quantity pricing starts at 50 pieces with tiers at 50 / 100 / 250 / 500 / 1000, and most orders ship FOB Yantian. Urgent production options are available for time-sensitive projects.

Choosing the right RPET fabric is the difference between a product that lasts and a product that disappoints. Explore Bontex's full fabric range on our Materials page, or contact our team to discuss your project.
